🌺 Navratri — Nau Durga, Nau Raatein

Navratri ("nine nights") is dedicated to the nine forms of Devi Durga — the Navadurga — each worshipped on her own day, from Pratipada through Navami. The festival opens with Ghatasthapana (kalash installation) on Day 1 and closes with havan, Kanya Puja and kalash visarjan around Ashtami and Navami. Each day below has its own full pooja vidhi — the Devi's form and significance, her dhyan mantra, the shodashopachar offering sequence and that day's specific bhog — so you can follow along day by day with your family.

📿 Step-by-Step Vidhi

Step 1 of 3
Nine Days, Nine Forms

Each of the nine nights is dedicated to one form of Devi: Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhidatri, in that order. The basic daily rhythm stays the same each day — only the Devi's form, her mantra and her bhog change — open the day's own page below when that day arrives.

Step 2 of 3
The Daily Routine

Each morning: bathe and wear clean clothes, light the diya (and tend the akhand jyot if you are keeping one), decorate the kalash/Devi image with fresh flowers, offer roli-akshat-chandan, and follow that day's pooja vidhi and mantra from its own page. In the evening, offer that day's bhog and perform the aarti together as a family.

Step 3 of 3
Beginning & Closing

Day 1 (Pratipada) opens with Ghatasthapana. Day 8 (Ashtami) and Day 9 (Navami) close the nine nights with Kanya Puja, and many families also perform a havan on Navami before the kalash is thanked and its water sprinkled through the home — see the Day 1, 8 and 9 pages for the full vidhi of each.
