🔱 Shiv Pooja — Shodashopachar Puja & Panchamrit Abhishek
Rudrabhishek is the most sacred and potent form of Shiv Pooja — a full ritual bathing (abhishek) of the Shivalinga with panchamrit (milk, curd, ghee, honey, sugar), Gangajal and sacred substances, accompanied by the Panchakshara mantra, Mahamrityunjaya path and Shiv stuti. Bhagwan Shiv — Mahadev, Adidev, Trilokinnath — is the compassionate destroyer and regenerator of the universe, the Ashutosh who is most easily pleased by sincere bhakti. Rudrabhishek brings health, longevity, removal of sins and obstacles, peace, prosperity and liberation. Among all offerings, bilv patra (three-leafed bel patta) is supremely dear to Shiv Ji — even a single leaf offered with shraddha is complete worship. The Panchaakshara mantra OM NAMAH SHIVAYA — representing the five elements — may be recited by all family members throughout the pooja.

📿 Step-by-Step Vidhi
Purify the pooja space, light the lamp and invoke Bhagwan Shiva's presence. Offer dhoop and begin with stillness and reverence.
Perform aachaman three times for internal purification. Sprinkle jal on the pooja space and materials with the shuddhi mantra.
Hold akshat, pushp and jal in the right hand. Speak your name, gotra, location, date and purpose — papakshaya, aarogya, moksha or sankalp.
Meditate on Bhagwan Shiva — Panchamukha, Trishul-dhari, seated on Kailash — and invite him into the Shivalinga with pushp and akshat.
Establish the sacred Kalash invoking the holy rivers — Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada, Sindhu — to be present in the abhishek jal.
Offer the 16 upachar to Bhagwan Shiva — aasan, padya, arghya, snaan, vastra, gandha, pushp, dhoop, deep, naivedya, tambul and dakshina.
Bathe the Shivalinga with panchamrit in sequence: Gangajal → milk → curd → ghee → honey → sugar → sugarcane juice → final pure jal.
Offer three-leafed bilv patra (bel patta), white/red pushp and bhasma — these are supremely dear to Shiv Ji among all offerings.
Recite the Panchakshara, Mahamrityunjaya and Shiv Gayatri mantras with full concentration. The purohit will lead; family joins in jap.
Perform Shiv aarti — Jai Shiv Onkara — as a family. Offer pushpanjali with akshat and flowers praying for peace, health and upliftment.
Offer kshama for any shortcomings in the pooja. Distribute prasad with full shraddha — receive as the direct ashirvad of Mahadev.
