🏠 Griha Pravesh Pooja — Vastu Shanti & Griha Lakshmi Pujan

Griha Pravesh is the sacred Vedic samskara of entering a new home for the first time. The pooja purifies the space, removes Vastu doshas, wards off negative energies and invites the blessings of Bhagwan Ganesha, Vastu Purusha and Lakshmi-Narayan into the home. The ceremony includes Dwar Pujan (door worship with swastik and haldi-kumkum), Kalash Sthapana, Shodashopachar Lakshmi-Narayan Pooja, and the beloved Doodh Ufan (milk overflow) tradition — the first fire lit in the new home, a living symbol of abundance, prosperity and grace. The family enters with the right foot first, the female member carrying the Lakshmi idol, opening a new chapter of saukhya, shanti and dharmic family life.

📿 Step-by-Step Vidhi

Step 1 of 12

Dwar Pujan & Griha Shuddhi

Stand at the main entrance and offer prayers. Apply swastik with haldi-kumkum and akshat on the doorframe to invite auspiciousness.

ॐ वास्तोष्पते प्रतिजानीह्यस्मान् स्वावेशो अनमीवो भवा नः। यत्त्वेमहे प्रति तन्नो जुषस्व शं नो भव द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे॥

Deep Prajwalan & Ganesh Stuti

Light the lamp and invoke Lord Ganesha's blessings at the threshold — removing all obstacles from the new home.

ॐ गं गणपतये नमः॥ · वक्रतुण्ड महाकाय सूर्यकोटि समप्रभ। निर्विघ्नं कुरु मे देव सर्वकार्येषु सर्वदा॥

Aachaman & Shuddhi

Perform aachaman three times for internal purification. Sprinkle Gangajal in the pooja space to purify the home's energies.

ॐ अपवित्रः पवित्रो वा सर्वावस्थां गतोऽपि वा। यः स्मरेत् पुण्डरीकाक्षं स बाह्याभ्यन्तरः शुचिः॥

Sankalp

Hold akshat, pushp and jal in the right hand. Speak your name, gotra, new home's address, date and purpose of the ceremony.

ॐ तत्सत्॥ · ममोपात्त समस्त दुरितक्षयद्वारा श्री परमेश्वर प्रीत्यर्थं गृहप्रवेश पूजां करिष्ये॥

Kalash Sthapana

Establish the sacred Kalash — the vessel of divine energy — at the pooja space to anchor auspicious vibrations in the new home.

ॐ कलशस्य मुखे विष्णुः कण्ठे रुद्रः समाश्रितः। मूले तस्य स्थितो ब्रह्मा मध्ये मातृगणः स्मृताः॥ · ॐ वरुणाय नमः॥

Ganesh Pooja

Offer pushp, durva ghas and modak/laddoo to Bhagwan Ganesha. Seek his blessing for a home free of obstacles and full of siddhi.

ॐ श्री गणेशाय नमः॥ · ॐ गं गणपतये नमः॥

Vastu Purusha Pooja

Invoke Vastu Purusha — the divine guardian of the home — in all four directions with jal and pushp for harmony and protection.

ॐ वास्तुपुरुषाय नमः॥ · शं नो भव द्विपदे शं चतुष्पदे॥

Lakshmi-Narayan Shodashopachar

Perform the 16-offering pooja to Lakshmi-Narayan — jal, chandan, akshat, pushp, dhoop, deep, naivedya, tambul and dakshina.

Doodh Ufan (Ksheera Utsarjan)

Boil milk in a new vessel — the first fire lit in the new home. Let the milk overflow freely: a living symbol of abundance and samriddhi.

ॐ श्री महालक्ष्म्यै नमः॥ · या देवी सर्वभूतेषु लक्ष्मीरूपेण संस्थिता। नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः॥

Griha Pravesh — Dahine Pair

Enter with the right foot first. The female family member carries the Lakshmi idol or Kalash into the home to invite Griha Lakshmi.

सर्वमङ्गलमाङ्गल्ये शिवे सर्वार्थसाधिके। शरण्ये त्र्यम्बके गौरि नारायणि नमोऽस्तु ते॥ · शुभं भवतु मङ्गलं भवतु॥

Aarti & Pushpanjali

Perform aarti of Lakshmi-Narayan together as a family. Offer pushpanjali with akshat and flowers — praying for saukhya and shanti.

ॐ जय लक्ष्मी माता॥ · नाना सुगन्धि पुष्पाणि यथाकालोद्भवानि च। पुष्पांजलिं मया दत्तां गृहाण परमेश्वर॥

Kshama Prarthana & Prasad

Offer kshama prayer for any shortcomings in the pooja. Distribute prasad and the doodh ufan milk to all — receive as the Lord's blessing.

मन्त्रहीनं क्रियाहीनं भक्तिहीनं सुरेश्वर। यत्पूजितं मया देव परिपूर्णं तदस्तु मे॥
